WEAAD in the Melbourne CBD – Seniors Rights Victoria
June 15, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
June 15 is the main day in the year to voice our opposition to the abuse inflicted on up to 10% of older people worldwide. Seniors Rights Victoria, the leading service tackling elder abuse in Victoria, invites you to our special World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event.
Join Seniors Rights Victoria at lunchtime on 15 June to hear the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence speak and for the launch of a new report on clients’ experiences of interventions into elder abuse.
RSVP to Caitlin Evans, our Communications Adviser, at cevans@seniorsrights.org.au. The venue is fully accessible. Light refreshments provided.
Speakers:
- Jenny Blakey, Manager, Seniors Rights Victoria
- The Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, the Hon. Fiona Richardson MP – elder abuse in relation to the Royal Commission into Family Violence report
- Jennifer Evans, a short story and video
- Freda Vrantsidis, National Ageing Research Institute, to launch an important research report: ‘The older person’s experience: outcomes of interventions into elder abuse’.
Elder abuse is now firmly on the national agenda thanks to our recent 4th National Elder Abuse Conference, the recognition of elder abuse in the Royal Commission into Family Violence report, and the Attorney General’s announcement of a national inquiry into laws and frameworks. Be part of the momentum for change by attending an event and/or doing your own World Elder Abuse Awareness Day activity. For more information see our WEAAD 2016 Toolkit.
